Gamma Sigma Sigma National Service Sorority was founded on October 10-12, 1952 at Beekman Towers in New York city. Three women service organizations and 8 colleges and universities came together for the purpose which embodied "Spirit of Service to Humanity." Gamma Sigma Sigma is a national service sorority which has "service as its primary goal". The sorority is based on the ideals of service, friendship and equality. The founding purpose of the sorority is to assemble in the spirit of service to humanity while developing friendship among members of all races and creeds. Gamma Sigma Sigma has had an enormous impact on volunteers on college and university campuses nationwide. Since its inception more than forty-five years ago, the sorority has held twenty-three National Conventions and has increased in size to over 4,000 active undergraduate and alumnae members. The Zeta Iota Chapter here at Prairie View A&M University continues in the pursuit of excellence in service to others. Since its inception, the chapter has provided superior service to the campus and neighboring communities. |
